VE Day commemeration

We have a range of Commemorative pieces to remember this very special occasion with. These items are handmade in very small quantities using special materials and when they are gone they are gone. Our range of small leather items can be seen by clicking on the above image. Using leather from cold war era soviet pilots jackets we have created keyrings, card cases and other leather items for our ‘red menace’ range. We also have used WW2 era American army airforce jackets in that range. With these leather items you are carrying and using a piece of history and each item is imbued with a sense of it’s historic past which gives it a sense of meaning beyond it’s functional purpose.

V1 doodlebug metal

To commemorate the 75th Anniversary of VE day and also the 50th anniversary of man setting foot on the moon we have made this handmade Sheffield folding knife which incorporates part of a V1 doodlebug which came down in Kent in WW2. The various German terror weapons heralded the start of the age of rockets and mans ultimate landing on the moon. We have very little of this metal and have made a batch of ten knives to start with. Each comes boxed with a letter on handmade paper. Post paid within the UK it’s 95

For many years we lived in France close to the landing beaches and in our village were the remains of huge fortifications built by the villagers and slave labour. The stories in that area could still be heard from individuals forced to work on the fortifications. The 75th Anniversary of VE day commemorates epic events. My parents had their house blown to pieces on the Christmas Eve blitz on Manchester and when they came out of the shelter surrounded by flames they thought they had died and gone to hell. Many years after the American Omaha beach landings I spoke on the phone from Omaha beach to the American General who got the Americans off Omaha beach and he was above all an ordinary man still trying to come to terms with what had happened. In Manchester in the blitz the Home Guard were only equipped with pick axe handles and assuming the parachute mines which were coming down were German paratroopers they charged the mines with their pick axe handles - so above all the VE Day Commemoration is a rememberance of the ordinary people involved.
